SEAL ISLAND SEA KAYAK TOUR

No Kayaking Experience Needed for this Trip

PROVIDED:
Transport to and from Perth, kayaking equipment, lunch, snorkelling gear and entry into the Penguin Experience.

YOU NEED TO BRING:
Footwear that can get wet, bathers, towel, shorts, t-shirt etc, sunscreen, hat, a strap for glasses (if worn), a change of clothes for the trip home and a fleece/windproof jacket for cooler weather. We provide snorkelling gear, but if you have your own please bring it as it will fit better and save you time. If you are paying cash please bring correct change.

ITINERARY:
After a 45 minute drive south from Perth to Shoalwater Marine Park (a beautiful bay with several limestone islands), we introduce people to each other and the equipment. We use easy to paddle double kayaks with waterproof compartments.

Our first paddle is to Seal Island, a distance of approximately 1 kilometre, where we look at Australian Sea Lions. Under the conditions usually experienced (light easterly breeze) this section will take about 15 minutes.

Next we paddle approximately 2 kilometres (about 30 minute paddle) to Penguin Island where we land and have an excellent picnic lunch, followed by a visit to the Penguin Centre where some Penguins are fed. After this people can fall asleep under a tree or in the sun, snorkel, swim, do some more kayaking, or go exploring the coast and caves of the island, whatever they wish. We usually take people on a nature walk around the island to discover the many and varied shellfish, starfish, crabs, sea birds (including a Pelican Colony), lizards, dolphins and some great views of the bay.

Around 2:30pm we muster for the return to Australia, often rafting the boats up and sailing back if the winds are right. This is a distance of approximately 2.5 kilometres. After packing the gear and changing into dry clothes (there is a toilet block at the start/finish point) we drive back to Perth, arriving approx 4.30pm.

This tour is highly recommended by the WA Tourism Information Centre as Perth's BEST one day "Ecotour".

NB: This itinerary is provided as a guide. Trips may alter due to weather conditions, because the safety and interests of the group will always come first.
